Day 8-Eleusis

Eleusis.  Home to the Eleusinian Mysteries.  And a small pack of dogs.  The Archaeological site of Eleusis is huge.  There are a lot of really interesting things to see.  I was particularly interested in the Ploutonion--which is supposedly the spot where Persephone emerges from hell to be on earth with her mother.  Dedicated to Demeter, the Eleusinian Mysteries were ceremonies and ritual that were kept secret from Greek society--only those participating or involved knew.

A Nice Collection of Old Things

Dancing in the Hellmouth

Eleusis comprised most of our day.  After the Archaeological site we moved up the mountain to the Archaeological museum.  Not as impressive as the other museums we went to, but it still had some fun things to look at...
Piglet Votive From the Roman Period
The group split up for lunch and some shopping and we finished the day in the pool with cocktails.  Joe attempted to do a lecture later on that night about what the project requirements were going to be for the trip; but I don't really think anyone understood or understands what he really wants from this project.

Joe.  What Do You Want From Us?
I would recommend drinking heavily and playing in the Mediterranean Ocean.  It always ends well.
